About ICOM

国际博物馆协会（其英文名称为International Council of Museums，简称国际博协或ICOM）成立于1946年，总部设于法国巴黎，是国际博物馆界最大且最具影响力的国际非政府组织。1947年10月，国际博物馆协会和联合国教科文组织签订了《关于两组织之间进行合作的途径和方法》的协定。从此，国际博物馆协会成为执行联合国教科文组织发展博物馆事业规划的合作者。国际博协致力于在世界范围内鼓励并支持各类博物馆的建立、发展及专业化管理，组织博物馆各领域的专业合作，宣传博物馆和博物馆事业，履行为国际社会服务的使命，规范博物馆职业道德标准。

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) was established in 1946 and is headquartered in Paris, France. It is the largest and most influential international non-governmental organization in the museum field worldwide. ICOM establishes professional and ethical standards for museum activities. As forum of experts, it makes recommendations on issues related to cultural heritage, promotes capacity building and advances knowledge. ICOM is the voice of museum professionals on international stage and raises public cultural awareness through global networks and co-operation programs.

中国是国际博协成立时最早发表声明表示支持的27个国家之一， 1983年经文化部和外交部批准，中国博物馆协会代表团出席了在伦敦举行的国际博协第13届大会，正式宣布中国加入国际博协。中国博协既是国际博协会员单位，也作为国际博协中国国家委员会协助国际博协组织、推荐中国会员，参与国际博协活动。

China was one of the first 27 countries declared their support for ICOM upon its founding. In 1983, with the approval of the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, the Chinese Museums Association delegation attended the 13th ICOM General Conference in London, and officially announced China's accession to ICOM. The Chinese Museums Association then became not only a member of ICOM but also ICOM's National Committee of China. It recommended Chinese members to ICOM, and supported Chinese professionals in organizing or participating in ICOM's activities.
